Claude Desktop

Once Claude Desktop knows about Mnemosyne, every conversation gets the Mnemosyne MCP tools without you touching prompts.

Open the Claude Desktop config

macOS:

open -e ~/Library/Application\ Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json

Windows: %APPDATA%\Claude\claude_desktop_config.json

Add the Mnemosyne MCP server

claude_desktop_config.json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "mnemosyne": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": ["-y", "@mnemosyne/mcp"],
      "env": {
        "MNEMO_URL": "http://localhost:3000",
        "MNEMO_KEY": "mns_live_xxx"
      }
    }
  }
}

If you’d rather run Mnemosyne as a docker container, swap the command:

"command": "docker",
"args": ["run", "-i", "--rm", "ghcr.io/lucasmailland/mnemosyne-mcp:latest"]

Restart Claude Desktop

Cmd ⌘ + Q, reopen. The hammer icon in the input bar shows the Mnemosyne tools — including memory_recall, memory_remember, memory_pin, memory_forget, memory_timeline and the rest of the 26-tool surface — alongside any other MCP servers you’ve configured.

Try it

“What do I usually drink in the morning?”

Claude calls memory_recall automatically. If you’ve never told it, the answer comes back empty — tell it once and watch the next session remember.

Claude Desktop runs the MCP server as a child process on your laptop. No network connection to Mnemosyne is required if you point it at a local instance. Air-gapped use works.
